- The Chicago Tribune reported: "Unbeaten Ricardo Lopez retained his International Boxing Federation light flyweight title by dropping challenger Zolani Petelo twice, in the second and eighth round. Badly beaten, Petelo stayed on one knee until referee Arthur Mercante's count reached 10."
