Richard Brent won the 1981 178lb New York Golden Gloves Sub-Novice Championship. Brent stopped(RSC-3) Pat Basciano of the Empire Sporting Club in the finals to win the Championship. Brent advanced to the finals in both 1982 and 1983 and was defeated. In 1982 Brent was stopped(RSC-1) by Gerard Capobianco of the Huntington Recreation in the finals of the 178lb Open division and in 1983 Brent was stopped{RSC-3) by Chris Reid of the Times Square Athletic Club in the finals of the 165lb Open Division. Brent trained at the Bed-Stuy Boys Associaton in Brooklyn, New York.
