Robert Osiobe 134 lbs lost to Sam Rukundo 135 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12

On November 24 in Gileleje, Denmark, “Rocky” Sam Rukundo of Sweden lifted the vacant world Universal Boxing Organization 140 Lb title with a unanimous decision over local hero Robert Osiobe. The bout was originally planned to be for the 130 Lb belt, but as Rukundo came in as a late sub for Samuel Kebede and couldn’t make the weight, promoter Robert Larson applied for, and was granted, sanctioning for the 140 Lb title as the 135 lb championship will be contested elsewhere in December.

Osiobe got off to a good start, and it looked as if he was the sharper of the two, but midway through the bout Rukundo evened things out, and started to take over in the later rounds. After twelve entertaining rounds, the judges scored in favour of the Ugandan-born Swede by scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 115-113.

Rukundo can now boast a record of 11-0-1 (4), and Osiobe falls to 8-3-4 (4).

UBO supervisor was president of the Danish Boxing Federation, Mr. Jesper Jensen, while the officials were Ove Ovesen (judge), Hans Larsen (judge) and Jan Christensen (scoring referee).
