Robert Safrani was another Jewish North African fighter who emerged after WW2. Safrani is reportedly to have won The North African Featherweight Title as an amateur probably sometime in 1944. Safrani also won the Algerian National Lightweight Title in 1947-this was probably the highlight of his professional career. His career got cut short by an unfortunate eye injury. During his fighting career Safrani was trained by ex-Middleweight North African Champion Joseph Esteve. Later in life Safrani became a successful boxing promoter for the World Boxing Federation in the greater Marseille area.
