The 164 pound Robert Villemain of France, after being on the floor himself for a nine count in the 4th, battered Joey to the floor twice in the 7th and duplicated the feat again in the 8th." -Syracuse Herald Journal

- Villemain sustained a cut under his right eye which required 8 stitches to close and a cut near his left eye which required 3 stitches to close during the bout. Ringside Dr. Arthur Vercillo recommended a 30 day suspension on Villemain because of his injuries, thus cancelling his bouts with Ralph Zanelli in Providence and Eugene Hairston in MSG, which were scheduled over the following 3 weeks.
