"35 year old Roberto Duran of Panama, took Robbie Sims 10 rounds in 109 degree heat Monday night and wants to remain in the picture despite a split-decision defeat. Duran attempted to muscle Sims in the 1st round. Sims turned to combinations in the 2nd round and a right brought swelling under Duran's left eye. Sims, of Brockton, Mass., knocked Duran's mouthpiece out for the first of three times in the 4th round and shrugged off low blows that brought warnings to Duran by referee Mills Lane. Duran showed his age in the middle rounds, breathing heavily while taking body punches. Duran nearly closed Sims' left eye with jabs in the 9th, but Sims found a neutral corner to his liking in the 10th when he pounded Duran with a short right, then a left to the cheek." -United Press International
