Johnny Bratton 153 lbs lost to Rocky Castellani 155 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Rocky Castellani today celebrated a no-knockdown victory over heavy-hitting Johnny Bratton. The ex-Marine from Luzerne, Pa., surprised Bratton and the 5,916 paying customers in MSG last night by staying on his feet all the way to win a unanimous and decisive 10-round victory over the former NBA welterweight king. It was close, though, as Rocky was staggered three times. At 154 3/4, Castellani was finely conditioned and fast. Bratton said his own weight of 152 1/2 was too much and slowed him down." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 6-4 Castellani

Post-fight comment

  • "We made an arrangement with London promoter Jack Solomons for a fight with Randy Turpin on April 22nd providing Rocky whipped Bratton. If Solomons holds to the terms, we're ready to go over whenever he says." -Tex Sullivan, Castellani's manager. However, despite any promotional promises, Turpin, instead, fought France's Jacques Hairabedian on that date in London.
