Rodolfo Gonzalez 136 lbs beat Javier Jimenez 140 lbs by TKO at 1:56 in round 6 of 10

  • Date: 1969-11-11
  • Location: Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, Texas, USA
  • Referee: Jimmy Scaramozi

"Jimenez, a tall, rangy southpaw opened an inch long cut over Gonzalez' left eye midway through the second round. Gonzalez abandoned his ideas of boxing his way to a victory and opened a savage attack when he felt the skin split over his eye.

The first punch of the sixth round sent blood spattering from Jimenez' nose and a break appeared possible, but it turned out to be nothing but a split of the septum.

Gonzalez didn't care what it was, however, and went to work savagely. He belted the kid around almost at will and then, midway through the round, whistled a right to Jimenez' belly, followed by a left hook to the liver and the game Mexican went down.

He was up quickly, but his second stepped into the ring and referee Jimmy Scaramozi stopped the fight 1:56 deep into the round." -San Antonio Express

  • The cut incurred by Gonzalez in this fight cancelled his December 4th, 1969 scheduled bout with Sugar Ramos in the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. This bout had already been postponed from November 6th when Ramos pulled out with the flu.
  • Scorecards through 5 completed rounds - 48-47, 49-47 and 49-46 all for Gonzalez.
