"Rodolfo Gonzalez, 134 1/2, Long Beach, Calif., upset 4th-ranked Ruben Navarro, 135 1/2, Los Angeles, on a majority decision in their 10-round lightweight bout at Anaheim Convention Center. Navarro was kept on the ropes for most of the fight by the aggressive Gonzalez, who scored with right hooks and uppercuts. Both fighters were cut but there were no knockdowns in the hard-fought bout. In the 6th round, Gonzalez opened a cut over Navarro's right eye and reopened the cut in the 7th. Gonzalez suffered a cut over his right eye in the 8th which was reopened in every round after that." -United Press International

- This was a co-main event with Armando Muniz defending his NABF Welterweight title against Ruben Vasquez on the shared bill.
- This bout had originally been scheduled for July 10th at the Inglewood Forum. However, Navarro refused to go through with the bout due to Gonzalez weighing in at 138 1/2, which was 1 1/2 lbs. over the contracted weight of 137.
