"Alberto Davila of Pomona knocked out former WBC bantamweight champion Rodolfo Martinez of Mexico City at 2:40 of the 7th round at the Olympic Auditorium Thursday night. Davila knocked Martinez to the canvas four times in the 7th round before referee John Thomas stopped the bout. Martinez had a slight advantage entering the 7th round. There were no knockdowns before the 7th round. The scheduled 12 round bout was billed as a WBC title elimination fight." -Associated Press
