Ronald Riedewald beat Leif Hansen by KO in round 4 of 8

  • Date: 1964-05-14
  • Location: Sparta Amfi, Sarpsborg, Norway
  • The colorful fighter and promoter Leif "Baggis" Hansen made another try to establish pro boxing in Norway. After three-and-one-half years of inactivity, Hansen presented four fights in the small town of Sarpsborg, South East of Oslo.

Hansen himself fought on the card, against Ronald Riedewald of Surinam, fighting out of the Netherlands. After two messy rounds of clinching, pushing and holding, the tall, lanky Riedewald (billed as a "negro-boxer" as one used to say in those days) dropped Hansen in the third round with a right hook. Hansen got a cut on his lower lip, which bled profusely. In the fourth round Hansen went down again. Many felt Riedewald had hit him too early after a "break"-situation, and there were loud protests from some of the 1,000 spectators. Hansen however didn't protest, he just wanted to go on. But the amount of blood made the referee stop the fight in favour of Riedewald.

This was Hansen's last fight. He continued as a promoter in Oslo from 1964-1967, then made a comeback with four shows in Oslo 1971.

Ronald Riedewald was to fight three more times in Norway ( 1964 and 1965), and even had plans of settling down.
