In an interview with Tris Dixon on Boxing Life Stories (October 2021) Ron said he didn't have any amateur fights. He turned pro aged 16 and fought numerous times in the boxing booths to earn money. Ron boxed on both Ali-Cooper undercards and was great friends with Randy Turpin. After boxing Ron kept involved in boxing as a matchmaker, manager and promoter. He worked along side Barry Hearn and Frank Warren over several decades.
