"Ron Lyle's hopes for a title bout just about ended Wednesday night when Lynn Ball scored a TKO over the veteran heavyweight in the 2nd round of a scheduled 10-round fight. Lyle, 38, making a comeback after being acquitted in a fatal shooting in Denver two years ago, had been headed for a title fight with WBA champion John Tate, provided he beat Ball. Lyle knocked Ball down at the end of the 1st round, but Ball said he was not hurt. In the 2nd, Lyle backed against the ropes after being hit by a left hook and fell to the canvas after Ball threw a series of left hooks and right crosses. Referee Bobby Ferrara then stopped the fight." -United Press International
