"Rory Calhoun took four rounds to get rolling, then hacked out a split decision over Charley Cotton of Toledo in their 10 round televised match before 2,305 in the City Auditorium Arena Wednesday night. Calhoun, White Plains, N.Y., caught at least a dozen solid rights to the head from Cotton in the opening stanzas. Calhoun gained command for the first time in the 5th round when he fetched Charley a jarring right to the jaw in a neutral corner. A left sent Cotton back against the ropes hunting cover. Calhoun bled from a cut over the left eye in the 3rd round and again in the last, but he looked the fresher of the two at the finish." -Associated Press
- Calhoun was a substitute for Gene Fullmer, who suffered a cut eye in a winning effort against Ernie Durando at the same City Arena on February 18th.
