"Rory Calhoun, the 6th ranked middleweight contender from White Plains, NY, used a crushing right to edge Randy Sandy of Brooklyn on a split decision tonight at Mechanics Building. Calhoun scored his hardest punches in the 9th round when he staggered Sandy with two jolting rights to the jaw. That was the closest to a knockdown in the bout. Sandy fought from bell to bell and minimized Calhoun's vaunted punching power by moving in close and scoring repeatedly with hard slams to the body throughout the fight." -Associated Press
