- Date: 1979-07-21
- Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA
- Referee: Robert Gonzalez
"The semi-final 10 round bout featuring the No. 2 and No. 4 contenders for Eusebio Pedroza's crown was a short, but bloody battle. 2nd ranked Ruben Castillo of Bakersfield, Calif., knocked Hector Carrasquilla of Panama through the ropes in the 1st round. Even though Carrasquilla got up, Castillo seemed to have the fight well in hand. But the Panamanian, who was bleeding profusely from the mouth, came back in the 3rd round with a knockdown of his own. Castillo was undaunted, however, and responded with another salvo that blasted Carrasquilla to the deck once again. He staggered to his feet, but the referee stopped the fight with 1:25 gone in the round." -Associated Press
