"7th ranked lightweight contender Ruben Navarro, Los Angeles, scored the 15th KO of his career with a vicious right to the chest of Bernardo Magno, Manila, in the 9th round of their boxing match Thursday night. Navarro sent the short right into Magno's chest and the fighter from the Philippines went to the canvas. Although he was able to get up, referee Larry Rozadilla halted the fight at 2:05 of the round with blood pouring down the side of Magno's face from a cut over his eye opened in the 8th round and gashed even more in the 9th. Navarro was in firm control of every round except the 6th and 7th which were about even." -Associated Press
