"Ruben Navarro, Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium, was a ring-master as he scored a lopsided 10 round decision over bitter rival Frankie Crawford. It was Navarro's fight from the 1:00mark of the 1st round when he landed a short, jolting left that buckled Crawford's knees and sent him staggering halfway across the ring. Though Navarro is the 4th ranked lightweight and Crawford the 5th ranked featherweight, they entered the ring with Navarro only a pound heavier at 134. Navarro's advantage in speed was obvious from the start. His stinging left jab kept Crawford off-balance and he would often land two or three sharp punches, then dance out of range before Crawford could launch a counter-attack. The 5,110 fans began to chant for Ruben early, and when it was over they all knew who had won." -The L.A. Times
- Unofficial L.A. Times scorecard - 9-1 Navarro
