"Ruben Navarro, 130 1/4, of Los Angeles used an effective left jab and straight rights Monday night to score an upset majority 10 round decision over world junior lightweight champion Hiroshi Kobayashi, 131 1/2. The 22-year-old Californian, unbeaten in 15 professional bouts, carried the fight to the Japanese fighter and outpunched his opponent, particularly in the late rounds when the champion tried to stage a comeback. Navarro battered Kobayashi freely in the 10th round in a bid for a knockout but was unable to stop his opponent." -United Press International
