- Referee: Dick Young 2-7
- Judge: Richard Steele 3-5
- Judge: Chuck Hassett 2-6
"Danny 'Little Red' Lopez moved to the threshold of a featherweight title bout at the Forum Thursday night when he knocked down Ruben Olivares three times and then put him down to stay with a short right hand in the 7th round. Olivares was credited with a knockdown by referee Dick Young early in the first, although it appeared Lopez had slipped to his hands and knees. No matter, Danny came back to win the round by dropping Ruben twice that left Olivares pounding the canvas in disgust at his own carelessness. Olivares went down again midway in the second under a rain of blows, but waged a comeback in the 3rd and 4th when he cut Lopez alongside the right eye. It ended, however, at 1:59 of the 7th after Danny chopped down Ruben in Olivares' own corner with a right that travelled only six inches, as Young tolled him out." -Long Beach Press-Telegram
