"Rubin (Hurricane) Carter, Paterson, N.J., ran afoul of the skittering tactics of Johnny Morris of East Liberty, Pa., and what he called a real hometown decision, dropping a split verdict in the Civic Arena. Carter carried the fight to his rival from the opening bell, but most of the time it was more of a pursuit race than a fight. Only twice did Johnny shift from his pre-fight plan of hit and run, and both times he was sorry. In the 4th he stopped and traded with Carter and was tagged with a left-right-left to the head that hurt him and he quickly got back on his bike. In the 9th he was decked with a right to the jaw, he took the 8-count and got up glassy-eyed, but his speed afoot carried him out of danger. Johnny was moving faster in the last round than in the first with Rubin still in hot pursuit. The crowd was happy with the verdict, but most of the press had Carter well in front." -Boxing Illustrated, April 1966 issue
