Rufe Turner drew with Charlie Lanum by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1917-05-12
  • Location: Palomar Pavilion, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
  • Notes

Orient lightweight title This was a disappointing fight. Lanum was much faster afoot than Turner, but he elected to box at a distance. Turner was more aggressive, but didn't do enough to win the decision. About two weeks before, Lanum barely escaped death or serious injury when a car in which he was riding (with Frank Churchill, promoter at the Olympic Boxing Club) was struck by another car. Both Lanum and Churchill were thrown into a salt marsh and only the soft mud saved them.
