Per the July 2, 1922 Seattle Daily Times, Sailor Richie Davis was really Henry Davis of Walla Walla, WA. The newspaper was reporting that he was at the Kennewick, WA, hospital in serious condition, near death, due to blood poisoning from a scratch on a leg he sustained while forced into the ropes two weeks previous, during a bout with Harry Casey. The paper also reported that he had won all of his professional bouts thus far, and was using ring earnings to pay his way through the Oregon Agricultural College. Davis was a boxing instructor at Washington State College, now Washington State University ("Wazzu").

Per the October 4, 1923 Daily News Searchlight newspaper of Bremerton, WA, some suspected that Davis was really Richie Mitchell of Milwaukee, WI (or of the U.S.S. Milwaukee, then moored in Bremerton).

The January 26, 1924 Sacramento Star reported that his manager at the time was Sol Levinson, famous San Francisco manager and glove manufacturer.

Per the Feb. 18, 1924 Tacoma News Tribune (from which comes the above photo of Davis), he had come north to the Pacific Northwest from California.

The Jan. 14, 1927 Los Angeles Times reported he was the United States Navy's bantamweight champion.
