Sam Hatton, as an amateur boxer, won seven Fort Worth (Texas) Golden Gloves titles. He also won the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Texas State Golden Gloves lightheavyweight championship in 1972 and then reached the finals of the National Golden Gloves.
