Sam Kellar (often spelled "Keller") started boxing as an amateur in 1901 or 1902. It was sometimes said he began his pro career in 1905, but it likely was a bit earlier. Won the national BUI Irish Flyweight Title from Alf "Spider" Stewart on December 27th, 1909 and than won the BUI Irish Bantamweight Title against Stewart on February 2nd, 1910, even though neither Kellar or Steward were Irish. Kellar also won the National Sporting Club British Light Flyweight Title in October 1906 when Kellar defeated Mark Verrall by knockout in the 9th rd.
Kellar was the father of Southern area flyweight title holder Dave Kellar.
