- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Harry Kessler 11-3
- Judge: Harold Barnes 12-3
- Judge: Bert Grant 9-6
"Sandy Saddler walloped Teddy Davis of Hartford with monotonous regularity enroute to a unanimous decision in the 15-rounder for the featherweight title in MSG. Having disposed of the No. 1 contender of the 126 pound class, Sandy looked forward with eagerness today in the direction of lightweight king Jimmy Carter. Davis, the 'losingest' challenger of all-time with 47 previous defeats on a spotty record, blamed an injured right hand for his one-sided defeat. Harry Kessler, who officiated the bout, warned Saddler many times for holding and hitting and low-punching but he didn't penalize the champion. He also warned Davis for his bulling." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 10-3-2 Saddler
Post-fight comments
- "I hurt my right hand in the 3rd round when I hit him on the head. He's a rough fighter - a dirty fighter. He breaks the rules. The referee should have taken a few rounds away from him." -Teddy (Red Top) Davis
- "Jimmy Carter is the one we want next. Sandy has wiped out everyone else so we might as well go after Carter. I'm going to try and make it for May or June outdoors." -Charley Johnston, Saddler's manager
- "Carter? Sure, man, if there's money in it, he's the man for me." -Sandy Saddler, on a possible fight with lightweight champ Jimmy Carter
