"Ex-world champ Floyd Patterson Monday night knocked out Italian heavyweight champion Santo Amonti in the 8th round of their scheduled 10-round bout. Referee Andrew Smythe stopped the fight after 2:25 of the round when Amonti crashed to the canvas for the second time within a minute and the fourth time in all. After cautiously measuring his opponent in the opening round, Patterson launched a strong offensive in the 2nd. He felled the Italian for the first time late in the 2nd after jumping on Amonti in one of his characteristic long combinations. Patterson kept up the offensive in the 3rd and in the middle of the 4th Amonti again was floored. he came up quickly and took the eight-count standing before being floored twice again in the 8th. The result ranked as a knockout under Swedish boxing rules." -Pacific Stars and Stripes
