- LeDoux had been promised an April 16th date to engage Gerry Cooney, or to possibly fight a comebacking Muhammad Ali. However, in his next bout he fought for Larry Holmes' heavyweight title.
- This bout was originally a rematch between LeDoux and Ron Lyle, however, Monroe, who was scheduled to fight Charles Johnson on the undercard, became LeDoux' opponent, due to Lyle suffering a broken nose while sparring with Monroe.
