"Scoring early with wild right crosses, Minnesota heavyweight Scott LeDoux scored a unanimous 10-round decision over previously unbeaten Marty Monroe at the St. Paul Civic Center Sunday. LeDoux, a 223-pound mauler, scored early with a series of hooks that staggered Monroe against the ropes in the 1st round." -Associated Press

  • LeDoux had been promised an April 16th date to engage Gerry Cooney, or to possibly fight a comebacking Muhammad Ali. However, in his next bout he fought for Larry Holmes' heavyweight title.
  • This bout was originally a rematch between LeDoux and Ron Lyle, however, Monroe, who was scheduled to fight Charles Johnson on the undercard, became LeDoux' opponent, due to Lyle suffering a broken nose while sparring with Monroe.
