WAA Lightweight Title
The more experienced O'Grady tried to 'slug it out' with Ganigan in an action packed round one. But then Ganigan, who opened his career with 25 consecutive wins and 23 knockouts, proved more than equal to the task of maintaining the tempo in round two. Ganigan continued landing left and right hand bombs, and O'Grady was all over the canvas. The fight was stopped after Ganigan knocked down O'Grady three times in round two. This bout was one of the best known 'defenses' of the Lightweight title of the now defunct World Athletic Assocation (W.A.A.) founded by O'Grady's father. The W.A.A. achieved some notoriety when it was founded, but it never achieved much credibility. However, Sean achieved much credibility and respectibility in the years that followed this bout as a television boxing commentor.
- Ganigan substituted on 2 weeks notice for Howard Davis, who suffered a rib injury in training.
