"OPBF lightweight champion Shinichi Kadota, who was regarded as the strongest contender from the Orient for Ken Buchanan's lightweight crown, lost his title in an upset unanimous decision to Ishimatsu Suzuki, 134 1/4, in 12 fast rounds at Korakuen Hall. The close defeat means farewell to his challenge of Buchanan. Clever lefty Kadota, 135, was forced to save himself by sidestepping and covering up from Ishi's aggressive attack. In the first half, Suzuki was in perfect command, taking three rounds and losing none. Kadota's best came in the 8th session, when he caught the speedy bomber with strong combinations to Suzuki's face to almost finish the losing combat. Suzuki, victim of Kadota's power via a KO last year, changed his scrappy strategy into cool counter-punching. In round 11 Suzuki unleashed a right uppercut that made Kadota almost hit the deck." -Ring Magazine, May 1972 issue
