This card was the first round of the NYSAC's elimination tournament to produce a recognized holder of the vacant world flyweight title.

NBA Flyweight Champ Frankie Genaro and Willie LaMorte failed to enter, while other top contender Speedy Dado was forced to withdraw because of an injured shoulder.

Eugene Huat was reported as the champion of Belgium at this time, and this was his New York debut.

Corporal Izzy Schwartz retired shortly after this bout, and began selling insurance for a living, according to The Ring, April 1930, p. 47. But he later came back for a few more bouts.
