According to the 2011 book The Greatest Champion That Never Was: The Life of W. L. "Young" Stribling by Jacklyn Weldon White, p. 37, on this hot and humid day, a series of car races were held on the track early that afternoon, boxing matches followed on a ring erected inside the park's baseball field, with an attendance of some 3,000 (with another 2,000 looking on from nearby railroad boxcars on the tracks behind the ballpark).
