from Rocky Ferrari: Hi , thank you for your interest .. well making my pro debut inside HMP shotts was something i wont ever forget. after going through all security checks ect and bing escortedto the gymnasium were the fights would take place i was shocked to see that the ring which was situated in the middle of the gym was not protected. It looked like any other type of boxing event or show i had fought at. Seats in rows of 5 long and 12 deep were placed on the four sides of the ring. Dont know what i expected ! To be protected by a high fence maybe ? Just couldnt beleive i was in one of scotlands hardest prisons with no visable means of bing kept safe. What if there was a riot ? haha ..I should have felt safe , he late Arthur Thompson was guest of honour that night ! regardless I was really scared. I was 1st on the bill that night and remember looking out at all these men sitting down , all these scary dangerous men and not being able to see any prison officers at all. When it was time to head towards the ring i remember waling really fast , keeping my head down making sure that i didnt make eye contact with any of the prisoners seated. Into the ring i went , bell sounded , a couple punches and just over 30secs gone the fight was over. I had knock the lad out. I had just wanted out of there as soon as poss. once the decision was declared and hand raised i walked as briskly towards the changing room as i had towards the ring a few minuets before , eyes foccused on the floor. Half way up the row of seats someone grabbed my arm. It was a guy who came from were i grew up. Next thing i knew there must have been no les than a dozen people that i knew as a young boy who were in side HMP shotts. I spent the rest of the night sitting with these guys , signing autographs , talking , laughing. I had a great time and an experiance i wouldnt change for anything. And to be the 1st person to throw a legal punch inside an HMP prison was an added bonus..
