Purse: $500 + 75% of the gate receipts, amounting to $1500. This was a clandestine bout for the lightweight championship of Illinois. Attendees took a special train for St. Louis to a destination not announced in advance. Madison County authorities prosecuted the boxers, who were subsequently jailed for about a year in Edwardsville, IL, for the crime of prizefighting.
