REPORT

Blackshear stops Reno, Enriquez stays undefeated[2]
By Felipe Leon at ringside Photos: Leonso Nunez FightNews September 5th, 2014
NABF female fight promoter of the year Bobby D. Presents lived up to the accolade received
earlier this year in Chicago when last night in “America’s Finest City” San Diego, CA, at
the home of local professional boxing, the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley, when they
presented “San Diego Fights: Dangerous Divas”.
The five-bout fight card featured three female fights, a first for San Diego. With amateur
standouts Danyelle Wolf and Andrea “The Boss” Medina, pioneering female fighters Sue TL Fox
and Del Pettis and current NABF light straw weight champion Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana
on hand, former two-time world champion Jolene “Classy Assassin” Blackshear (9-5, 4KO) only
needed fifty seconds of the first round of a scheduled six in the light flyweight division
to stop Susan Reno (1-3-1) of New York. Reno was no stranger to San Diego since last April
she came to town and dropped a competitive six round decision to the aforementioned Quintana.
On the same card in April, Blackshear herself was stopped in seven rounds in an NABF 108lb
title fight. This time Blackshear did the dropping. Jolene began working behind a steady jab
earlier but it was a stiff right hand that sent Reno back towards the ropes with a wounded
look in her eyes. That’s all the “Classy Assassin” needed to go after the New York native and
go for the finish with a steady flow of punches including another right hand that sent Reno
straight down to the canvas hitting the bottom rope on her way. That was all veteran referee
Pat Russell needed to see to call off the fight without a count. The forty-four year old
Blackshear mentioned she was looking for a title shot soon. Enriquez Remains Undefeated

WBC#6, IBF/WBA#5 and current NABF light flyweight champion Kenia Enriquez (12-0, 6KO) did was
she knows best and that is to win as she dominated her most experienced opponent to date in
the ultra-tough Mayela “La Cobrita” Perez (11-16-4, 7KO) of Saltillo, Mexico, over eight rounds.
The shorter Perez was all business from the opening bell as she was the aggressor throughout
the night while Enriquez of Tijuana controlled the distance with her pin-point jab. Perez made
the left hook and a wide over hand right her weapons of choice scoring a left early as Kenia
went to the body. Perez also added a good amount of uppercuts that surprisingly found their
way to Enriquez’s chin in the opening rounds.
Enriquez, fighting in San Diego for the third time this year and fourth overall, began to warm
up by the fourth and unshielded her favorite punch, the right hand, which began to find its
way to Perez’s face more often than not. Perez kept plugging along and found the way for her
over hand right.
In the sixth Perez caught Kenia with a big left hook as Enriquez threw her a right uppercut
which prompted a good exchange in which Kenia’s punches got there harder and faster. With the
fight won with her steady jab and much more accurate combinations, Kenia came out guns blazing
in the eighth and final round as she looked for the knockout her growing fan base was shouting
for but Perez proved to be too cagey and much more sturdier than believed as she was able to
not only make it to the final bell but answer some of Enriquez’s attack. No surprise when
announcer Benny Ricardo read the scores of 80-72 three times to award Enriquez the shutout win.
“She was a tough opponent, it got frustrating there for a bit, I wanted to knock her out but
she took ever punch, I take my hat off to her,” Enriquez said after the fight. “I felt good in
there, I am glad I went the eight rounds for the first time in my career.”
Pasion makes Pro Debut a Good One
In the third female fight of the card, Hawaii’s Haley Pasion (1-0) struggled but was able to do
enough to win a majority decision over fellow first timer Jillian Lybarger (0-1) in a super
featherweight four. Lybarger, 0-2 as an MMA fighter, at times had her combat sports as she
attempted some backhands and Muay Thai moves on the more traditional Pasion.
Pasion at times also looked out of her element as it was hard to gauge the awkward style of
Lybarger but she was able to score enough times with solid straight punches to convince the
judges to give her the majority decision with scores of 40-36, 39-37 and an even 38-38.
Sanchez Gets TKO Win
Making his pro debut in the US, San Diego by way of Culiacan, Mexico, Miguel “Zurdo” Sanchez
(9-0, 7KO) got the TKO win when Ivan “Oso” Zavala (6-7-2, 2KO) was not able to continue after
the third round due to a possible fractured right hand.
Zavala opened up the fight with a nice right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the
head of charging Sanchez. Sanchez only knows one direction and that is forward as he pushed
forward with mainly power punches. Zavala worked his way out of harms reach by pivoting
around but not enough as Sanchez was able to catch him against the ropes more than once.
In the second, Zavala threw hook that landed on the top of Sanchez’s head which caused the
injury. It looked like he wouldn’t come out for the third after doctor Bear Gamboa looked at
the hand but the Tijuana tough guy wanted to give it a go and he did as he had his best round
yet as Sanchez developed a large mouse under his left eye. Sanchez kept throwing more punches
throughout the round but Zavala the more accurate despite the throbbing right hand.
At the end of the third after another inspection by Dr. Gamboa it was determined that he would
not be able to continue. Official time was 3:00 of the third of a scheduled welterweight six.
Congo’s Enjani Beats Urbina
Tough as nails super bantamweight Mulapi “The African Mexican” Enjani (1-0) dropped Juan Urbina
(0-3-1) in the second round of four en route to a unanimous decision win in his first pro fight.
After a 27-2 amateur record, Enjani proved he was more than ready for the pros as he battled it
with the game Urbina for the entire four months hurting his Los Angeles opponent more than once.
A right uppercut from Enjani of San Diego by way of Congo dropped Urbina and an over hand right
in third almost dropped him again. Enjani displayed a granite chin as he took as well as he gave
to earn the 40-35 three times from the judges.
Blackshear Takes Out Reno In 1[3]
Reginald Murrell reporting from San Diego: MaxBoximg 09-05-14
Bobby D Presents from Crowne Plaza in San Diego California Dangerous Divas, a
five card bout featuring Jolene Blackshear and Kenia Enriquez in separate bouts.
With one punch it was all over, Jolene "Classy Assassin" Blackshear, 9-5 (4KOs),
San Diego, CA. needed just fifty seconds of the first round to stop Susan Reno,
1-3-1, New York, NY. Blackshear rushed out of her corner at the sound of the bell
with her big right locked and loaded looking for the opportunity to unleash it.
After using her jab to get closer to Reno, it happened, Blackshear threw a powerful
right straight down the middle of Reno’s guard, catching her flush. Reno stumbled
back into the ropes, but the fight was over as soon as that right hand landed.
Referee Pat Russell stepped in before any more damage could be done.
Blackshear KO 50 seconds round 1
NABF Light Flyweight Champion Kenia Enriquez, 12-0, (6KOs), Tijuana, MX continued
her winning ways against tough, experienced WBC Strawweight Champion Mayela
"Cobrita" Perez, 11-16-4 (7KOs), Saltillo, MX. Perez stood in front of Enriquez
in a give and take first round. Perez wanted to show her bigger champion she was
not intimidated by her undefeated record.
As each fighter began to get comfortable with the style and rhythm of the fight,
Perez started to give Enriquez some problems with her short left hook. It
wouldn’t be until the later rounds of this 8 round Junior Flyweight bout that
Enriquez would take control of the fight.
Round 6 Enriquez began to use her longer jab, keeping Perez at distance.
Enriquez began to use her superior boxing skills, putting together 4 punch
combinations that Perez had no answer for.
Scores were 80-72 on all three judges cards-Enriquez Unanimous Decision
Miguel "Zurdo" Sanchez, 9-0 (7KOs), Culiacan, MX stopped Ivan "Oso" Zavala,
6-7-2 (2KOs), Tijuana, MX in 3. Sanchez backed Zavala up with continued pressure
and hard shots to the head and body. Zavala elected to have referee Pat Russell
intervene and stop the bout at the start of the third round due to a hand injury
he suffered in the second round.
Haley Pasion, 1-0, Honolulu, HI won her pro debut over Jillian Lybarger, 0-1,
Glendale AR who was also making her pro debut.
Mulapi Enjani, 1-0, San Diego, CA won her pro debut over Juan Urbina, 0-3, (1KO),
Los Angeles, CA
