A shower fight is an old Australian term for a bout where a shower of coins was tossed into the ring by spectators to show their appreciation to the boxers, mainly in the preliminary fights. Ringsiders sometimes suffered cuts to the head from coins tossed from the back of the venue; one in a Melbourne show loss the sight in one eye. "When a shower starts you duck and cover your eyes."
