  • "Sid Terris, the leading contender for the lightweight title, got out of the tight little hole on Tuesday night when he met Jimmy Goodrich of Buffalo at MSG and got by a shoestring decision. The boxing commission had a final eliminator arranged between Terris and Sammy Mandell, the outcome of which will decide which lightweight will meet lightweight champion Benny Leonard for his crown. This being the case, it is lucky for Sid that he was favored by the referee and two judges who discounted Goodrich's five aggressive finishing rounds and placed chief value on the earlier frames." -The Syracuse Herald

    • Although the upcoming Mandell-Terris bout was to be a final eliminator, Benny Leonard retired two days after this bout took place and Mandell-Terris became just another in a series of eliminators. The vacant title, which was decided in July, was ironically won by Jimmy Goodrich.
