Sinan Samil Sam 252 lbs beat Paolo Vidoz 250 lbs by MD in round 12 of 12

  • Vacant EBU (European) Heavyweight Title
  • Weights: Sam 252.2 lbs, Vidoz 250 lbs

Notes

  • Title had been vacated by Vladimir Virchis.
  • Vidoz weighed in at a career high 250 lbs.
  • This fight was originally ruled a majority draw.
  • Weeks later, on July 16, 2008, the European Boxing Union ruled the decision should be given to Samil Sam because judge Dolpierre allegedly admitted a mistake scoring the 12th round. An article about the EBU's decision can be found here:[1]
  • Many neutral observers believed Vidoz had done enough to win, because Sam took numerous jabs from his opponent through the hole fight, while neither fighter seemed to land many more power shots than the other.
  • The EBU ordered a rematch between the two fighters within 90 days of its decision. But Sam relinquished the belt only a few days after it was awarded to him. Thus making the rematch unlikely to happen.
