Izzy Jannazzo 157 lbs lost to Solly Krieger 161 lbs by TKO at 2:12 in round 11 of 12

  • Location: Hippodrome, New York, New York, USA
  • Referee: Joe Vaccarella

"Solly Krieger, stolid Brooklyn slugger, did his hopes of a middleweight title shot little good last night in registering an unimpressive 11th round TKO over Izzy Jannazzo, New York East-sider, in their 12-round bout at the Hippodrome. Krieger outweighed his rival 161 to 157 1/2 and did all the heavy punching, but he let Jannazzo set his own pace all the way and score consistently with a flashy left jab. Krieger, who has posted a challenge for a title fight with Freddie Steele, had his rival bleeding from nose and eyes from the 6th round on, but was unable to knock him off his feet." -Associated Press

  • This bout was part of a series of eliminations also involving such fighters as Glen Lee, Fred Apostoli, Young Corbett III and Al Hostak, designed to find a suitable challenger to middleweight champ Freddie Steele. However, it's unclear how Jannazzo got involved as he was a career welterweight, who promptly returned to 147 after this one-off middleweight bout.
