"Spider Webb, Chicago, No. 3 ranked middleweight, raked a bleeding mask on Neal Rivers and won on a TKO in 2:49 of the 4th round in their Chicago Stadium bout Wednesday night. In an action filled 3rd round, Webb blasted Rivers to the canvas for an eight count with a powerful right to the side of the head. In the same round, Rivers connected with a wild right square on the chin which sent Webb reeling back against the ropes. Rivers, from Las Vegas, was bleeding from the nose and mouth as the 4th round began. Before the 4th round was a minute old, Rivers' face was a crimson mask from Webb's surgeon-like attack." -Associated Press
- All three officials had Webb ahead when referee Joey White stopped the fight.
