"Spider Webb, the NBA's top middleweight challenger, today bid for a title fight with champion Gene Fullmer after sqeaking to a loudly booed split decision over unranked Rory Calhoun. Calhoun started as if he were the favorite, not the 2-1 underdog. Webb was decked for an eight count and shaken a little in the 2nd round for the only official knockdown. From the 3rd round on Webb outboxed Calhoun but Rory pounded him consistently in a head-banging battle. There simply were no body punches." -Associated Press
