Strelich was born in Colorado, before moving back to his parent's Croatian homeland before he was ten, returning in 1921 to the United States. Strelich was a mid-level wrestler in California during the 1920s and 1930s, while also occasionally boxing. Strelich later became involved in the wrestling and boxing promotion business in Bakersfield, California. In 1941, partnered with George Karl Haberfelde, he became the promoter and manager at the Bakersfield Dome. Strelich eventually became the owner of the arena, which he would eventually sell in 1962, the arena was often referred to as "Strelich Stadium" or "Strelich Sports Arena."
