"World featherweight champion Sugar Ramos received an unpopular and disputed decision over Vicente Derado of Argentina at the Olympic Auditorium Friday night. The officials gave Ramos a unanimous verdict, but numerous sports writers and thousands of fans thought Derado should have received the verdict. It was a savage fight, Derado was strong as a bull. He crowded Ramos and often punished him against the ropes. Seemingly not as strong and in as good a shape as he was against Davey Moore, Ramos could not put the cooler Derado away. In the 6th and 10th rounds Ramos came close to dropping the game Argentine. Derado hardly could get to his corner without help after either of these rounds. But Ramos did not fight this way often enough to win as the fans expected him to." -Pasadena Star-News

- "I win most of the rounds and lose the fight. I won most of the rounds against Kenny Lane in MSG and they took it away from me then, too." -Vicente Derado
- "I couldn't fight my fight against him. He was too strong and crowded me too much. He sure takes a punch." -Sugar Ramos
- "Derado was strong and in better shape than Ramos, but Ramos punched more sharply and scored consistently when he wasn't pinned against the ropes. I had the fight even going into the 10th and I gave it to Ramos when he took the round. Ramos was not too smart tonight. He could have got away from the ropes but he didn't use his head." -Referee Tommy Hart
