  • Unofficial UPI scorecard: 8-2 Moyer

"Denny Moyer gained vengeance on Sugar Ray Robinson Saturday night by hammering out a decisive 10-round decision over the former welterweight and middleweight champion at Madison Square Garden. The 22-year-old Moyer won the unanimous decision almost as he pleased. ... Robinson had won a narrow, unpopular decision over Moyer at the Garden last Oct. 21 and had a winning streak of four. Moyer treated the former great of the ring like a preliminary boy. He hurt Sugar Ray in the third, fifth, ninth and tenth rounds. Although blood trickled from his nose from the first round on, the stocky Oregonian went after the 41-year-old Robinson like a tiger. He pounded the veteran with hooks to the body and right hand leads to the head." -
