Ray Robinson 157 lbs fought without result Gerhard Hecht 165 lbs by NC in round 2 of 10

  • Date: 1951-06-24
  • Location: Waldbuehne, Westend, Berlin, Germany
  • Referee: Otto Nispel

Robinson dropped Hecht in the first round with a right-hand kidney punch. Hecht was carried to his corner and given one minute to rest in addition to the between-rounds respite. In the second round, Robinson dropped him again with another right-hand kidney shot. Hecht's handlers leaped to the ring apron and started yelling at the referee about the foul. The referee waved off the fight, and the crowd started to throw bottles and other debris into the ring. Robinson took refuge under the ring for several minutes and was then escorted to his dressing room by policemen. He was informed in his dressing room that he had been disqualified.

"I have to call it a foul," Robinson said the referee told him later. "I want to leave this ring alive."

The following day, the West Berlin Boxing Commission changed the result to a no contest.
