Granddaughter's Request

Paddy O'Shea was a boxer from the age of 19 in 1937 with records through to 1943. He became the State Welterweight Champion.

He married his wife Lorna (Heffernan) in 1944 and as family we believe he was still boxing till 1945 although yet to find any record of that.

Paddy O'shea was my grandfathers fighting name his real name was Leslie Bartsch. He fought under Paddy O'Shea so his family of strong religion and with a lot to do with the Salvation Army looked upon boxing as "the devil sport".

Sadly partually due to boxing and also a hereditary part of the family he developed dementure in his later years and has only recently passed away at the age of 88.

He was a loving father and grandfather and unfortunately by the time I was of age to learn about his boxing career his memory was failing him.
