"Tamie Mauriello, New York heavyweight, registered an 8th round TKO over Gunnar Barlund, Finnish veteran, last night in the main event of Jack Kearns' Service Athletic Equipment show. After the bell ended the fighting in the 8th round, referee Dick Fazio stopped the bout because Barlund was bleeding badly from a cut on his nose. Mauriello, though out-weighed 203 to 197, won with ease over his slower opponent. Barlund, however, surprised the 7,500 fans by remaining afoot throughout." -United Press
