"A rejuvenated Tami Mauriello, cast in the role of a 14-5 underdog, jumped back into the heavyweight picture Friday night with an impressive 10-round decision over Lee Oma in their third and rubber match at MSG. Looking in the pink of condition at 199 1/2, Mauriello punished the Detroiter unmercifully this time with long overhand rights to the ribs and head. He had Oma, 181, hanging on in the closing rounds when his two-fisted attack brought Oma close to a knockout. Mauriello won a unanimous decision." -Associated Press
