Ted Krache beat Young Carmen by PTS in round 6 of 6

  • Date: 1923-05-21
  • Location: Electric Park, Hoquiam, Washington, USA
  • Referee: King Vanucie

This scheduled bout was reported earlier by the April 19 Hoquiam American as to be Krache's 30th bout in his one-year-old career. The May 24th edition described this as a "thriller":

Carmen's showing was such as to keep the fans on edge every second. Possessed of cleverness, ability to take punishing punches and willingness to mix, the Californian proved just the right sort of a scrapper required to permit of Krache's showing at his best, and the Hoquiam lad was equal to the occasion. Ted was in there from the first bell, and while he seemed worried in the earlier rounds, he kept rushing and exchanging wallops and in the latter rounds was gaining fast. Had the bout been over the 10-round route, it seems safe to predict Carmen would have been compelled to take the count as he was weakening seriously in the sixth and final round.
Krache's victory shot his tock high in Coast boxing circles. Carmen has been going great guns of late and only recently gained a 10-round decision over Johnny Trambitas in Portland. Carmen is a big favorite in California, and Krache's win will mean that the Hoquiam boy will be showered with offers to display his wares in California rings....
The fact that it was the hardest fight in which Krache has ever figured caused the fans to feel extremely happy at the splendid showing of the Harbor favorite.
