David Edward (Ted) Wotherspoon boxed under the name of Teddy McCoy and was said to be an Aboriginal boxing champion.
Ted was the first aboriginal in New South Wales to be granted a liquor licence. He was the licencee of the Wallarah Hotel at Catherine Hill Bay (near Newcastle, NSW) which he ran with his wife Dorothy. Wotherspoon also worked at for the Electricity Commission at Wangi Wangi powerstation, near Catherine Hill Bay, NSW for many years.
